Mapping the Social and Technological Context of Cultural Production

Knowledge is produced within a context. Social and technological factors influence knowledge production and how it spreads. To test theories on the role of this context, we need data. Hidalgo and his team will generate this dataset based on the multilingual expression of biographies which will serve as a proxy for culture production. They will study the effect of broadcasting technologies – the printing press, film, radio– and the role of diversity – gender, topic, intergenerational –on the kinds of knowledge produced in different time periods.
